Interview with Samantha:
Can you tell us a little about yourself?
My name is Samantha Tenney and I am a senior undergraduate student at Salem State University. There, I major in Psychology with dreams of becoming a School Adjustment Counselor in the near future. On campus, I am a member of the Commonwealth Honors Program, a leader in the Student Athletic Advisory Committee, a proud constituent of the LEC All-Academic team, and the captain of the Women’s Tennis Team. Go Vikings!
When did you begin your tennis journey?
I first started playing tennis during my freshman year of high school. I ended up falling in love with the sport. I made the varsity team my sophomore year and was nominated as a captain during my senior season.
How was your college tennis experience?
I played tennis during all four of my undergraduate years. I progressively moved up the line until I made it to first singles my Junior year. I also found success as a member of all three doubles teams. I was nominated to be team captain during both my junior and senior seasons.
What is your favorite tennis-related memory?
My favorite tennis memory has to be helping the team clinch an important win against Castleton University in 2022. It seemed like my doubles partner and I would need to accept defeat, but we ended up pulling out the superset win with a score of 8-7 (7-4). The energy of the crowd and the pride we felt that afternoon will forever give me chills.
What does your teaching experience look like?
I worked at a preschool for 3 years before starting my tennis coaching journey. I have worked with youth players ages 3 to 15. I enjoy incorporating fun into learning, while striving to maintain a safe environment for players of all levels.
What will the structure of the summer camp look like?
Each week will be centered around a fun theme. The games and drills will fit the theme of the week as well as focus on a specific aspect of tennis.
What are some of your goals for the summer camp at North Shore tennis?
I am looking forward to helping the youth players develop their personal tennis goals as well as enrich their experience with team-building games and plenty of fun! I have learned a diverse set of drills and exercises imperative to the sport that I am eager to share. I cannot wait to meet all of the campers and have a great summer! We are going to learn a lot and have a blast doing it!
